Wet bag vs bucket

This is up to personal preference but I use both: a bucket in the bathroom for poo nappies; and a wet bag in the nursery hung off the changing table for wee nappies. I need both of these to hold enough dirty nappies for 2 days. You can use any bucket with a tight fitting lid. Some websites advise an “airy” bucket but personally I have had no issues with a completely closed one.

A wet bag is the modern way of storing dirty nappies and they have definite advantages:

1. They are the best option for out and about or away from home

2. They are small and easy to store so you can have multiples of them

3. They are supposed to be breathable to let air circulate around your dirties

4. They come in different sizes from small to big

5. They look good, can easily be chucked in with the wash and they come in any colour and a huge variety of prints.

A bucket seems old fashioned but I like it a lot because:

1. I rinse by hand and wring all night and poo nappies and therefore these are actually quite wet and being in a bucket there is no chance of a leak at all (a wetbags’ PUL holds water but is not water proof)

2. They make a handy shelf/surface next to the toilet for when I’m rinsing the wipes and liners from a poo nappy or rinsing all of a night nappy

3. They hold smells even better than a wetbag

4. It feels retro!

My Whitefurze bucket was pretty cheap on Amazon and it is made in Britain!

The wetbag + bucket combo means on wash night I simply turn out the wetbag of nappies etc. into the machine and with it folded inside out use that as a glove to pick the nappies out of the bucket. Then I clean the bucket with anti-bac spray and a microfibre household cloth and chuck that in the wash too. Let the bucket dry properly.

Not rocket science but it works, and means I have no need for a mesh laundry bag. Which I personally think prevents nappies moving around in the machine properly and I have seen people post often snags when inside the machine. But again each to their own.
