Period pants or underwear for girls under 10

Today’s generation are starting their periods much younger, and period pants or period underwear is one of the simplest and unobtrusive ways for tweens and teens to make this transition.

I am not writing this blog to delve into scientific the reasons why this is happening, or to tell you how to manage this emotionally complex but special time as a parent. There are plenty of people more qualified out there to cover that in depth. However read on if you are looking for practical knowledge on products that specifically suit the needs of this age group.

Practical support

My support always come from a practical standpoint because this is my forte; once you have the practicalities sorted out the rest will slip into place much easier.

I’m not trying to oversell reusable pads in this circumstance either. This is because I understand the thought process that using a pad is comparatively a step further away for a young girl. The convenience of wearing a different pair of pants on certain days, is more digestible to a girl of primary school age. If you would like to read my recommendations in this area, then please have a look at the best sanitary pads for teens and tweens.

I am writing this blog post because one of the most frequently asked questions in my Facebook Group is undoubtedly “where can I find reusable period pads or pants for my 7 (yes 7), 8, 9, or 10 year old daughter?”.

My aim is to narrow down the best options for you to consider because sizing for this age group is always going to be an issue.

There is nothing you can buy on the UK high street to suit this need. Or on Amazon. There is no one brand right now that makes and markets period underwear specifically for a 7 year old. Which is such a missed opportunity, from what you are telling me. Maybe I’ll make and patent my own one day…but for now I have been exploring this corner of the online market for a while because it always helps to be prepared.

So here are my first choice recommendations when it comes to period pants for under age 10…

Period pants for girls under 10

1. Power of Pants - The Popsicle Boyshort (£17)

I have confirmation from Nik, the designer of this up and coming brand based in Devon, that these pants have been able to fit a 7 year old. Whilst the sizing technically goes down to age 10, these pants are shaped for smaller bodies, comfortable and super stretchy, meaning that the smallest size will fit age 7-8 if you need it to.

The design of a boy short appeals to me because it’s practical and I have it on good authority from my 8 year old daughter, that they are her favourite because of the purple colour when comparing the look of all the brands I am recommending.

They are made of bamboo which is my absolute favourite fabric, and are designed for moderate to heavy flow with a gusset panel that extends to the back waistband.

Following this link will get you an automatic 10% discount, or use code BERRIESANDBUNDLES at checkout.

By trying this brand you will not only be supporting a small UK business, but for every 10 pairs purchased one pair get’s donated to Bloody Good Period.

2. Wuka Teen Stretch (from £17.99 or “pay your age” when on a promotional offer)

Several mums have commented in my group that they bought Wuka (standing for Wake Up Kick Ass) period pants for their daughter and they are extremely happy with them. I am a big fan of Wuka and they were the first period pants brand I tried and are probably the brand I recommend most often for those with a heavy flow.

I have been fortunate enough to get hold of a pair of these new design pants for my daughter and can confirm that they are true to size and fit a average age 8 year old girl.

The best thing about Wuka is that their quality is impressive and I would say they are definitely the most durable pants I own.

I have no discount code for Wuka but they do regular offers/sales and this is an affiliate link so if you make a purchase following this link it will support my page.

They are a UK brand founded by Ruby, who heads up the #AxeThePeriodPantsTax UK campaign for period pants to be tax free, and have some of the most ethical credentials you will find of any company. Wuka also ship worldwide.

3. Modibodi Red (from £19.50)

Modibodi’s Red range is specifically designed for the younger market and sizing goes down to age 8-10. With a range of styles and patterns that particularly appeal to this age group they are definitely one to consider.

My own experience of Modibodi is that their sizing and fit can come up on the smaller size, and so I see no reason why an age 8-10 size shouldn’t fit a 7 year old, I just haven’t categorically tried it or seen someone vouch for this.

Pricing wise they are however on the more expensive side, so effectively you are probably paying that bit extra for the choice of colour and pattern. They are however super popular and I have heard women in my group say they highly recommend them for young girls.

I have no discount code for Modibodi but they do regular offers/sales and this is an affiliate link so if you make a purchase following this link it will support my page. Modibodi are an Australian brand but are available globally.
