For the love of bamboo
3 bamboo stems are believed to bring 3 kinds of luck: happiness, long life and wealth.
But there is more to this at times alien looking plant (which actually makes an indoor suitable exotic decorative statement & increases your Feng Shui) than meets the eye.
Eco-benefits
I’m now officially obsessed with bamboo as a fabric. It’s ideal for making nappies, wipes and boosters because it’s extremely absorbent after several washes and it’s anti-microbial. It’s also more eco-friendly in terms of manufacturing processes than even organic cotton:
“Bamboo fabrics are eco-friendly, sustainable and responsibly sourced. The bamboo plant grows quickly without using pesticides, excessive water or care. Bamboo regenerates quickly and even cleans the air while it grows. The bamboo fibres are made by manipulating the grass until it separates into thin threads, these are then spun into thread for weaving or knitting fabrics”. (Source: Dragonfly Fabrics)
Bamboo every day
But bamboo fabric is also a very under-rated material for every day clothing. I first came across bamboo when I was last pregnant and I needed some bottoms suitable for doing yoga because normal maternity leggings were constantly riding up and needed adjusting during my yoga class . The yoga bottoms I bought online turned out to be made of bamboo fabric, and they were and still are one of the most noticeably comfortable things I have ever worn during and after pregnancy. Think of the softest jersey fabric you could possibly imagine.
Keeping you cool
The other reason I loved these so much is because bamboo is nature’s performance fabric. It is temperature regulating, so it doesn’t make you sweat, and therefore ideal for sportswear or anything that fits close to the skin.
Now I have it in underwear, pyjamas, a woolly hat & scarf, a poncho… the possibilities endless. And if anyone is ever short of an idea of what to get me for a birthday or Christmas gift, then anything made out of bamboo fabric will make me truly happy!
So there is more to this fabric than it’s eco-credentials.
What else can I find in bamboo fabric?
